Book review on VERUKAL of Malayattoor Ramakrishnan
Malayattoor Ramakrishnan was born on 1997 in Kalpathi at
Palakkad.
He is a famous story writer in the Kerala and contributed
so many works to Malayalam literature, and his famous novels are Yakshi, Yanthram, Nettoor
Mathom and Amritham Thedi .
One of his famous novels is
Verukal (roots) which is written in 1965. It’s a semi-autobiographical
novel based on Tamil surroundings so,
most of its conversations are in Tamil language and the reader can learn basic
terms of Tamil language that anyone can use easily . it
describe the story of a person who is living at town far away from his native
family and he is being forced by his wife to sell his native house which had
inherited from his father for build a big house in the town. He has three
sisters at his native place so he wrote a letter to them to make them know that
he want to sell the house.
The main character
Rakhu is passed IAS between his family tragedy that his father was fallen in
ill, although he passed his exam by help of his sister lakshmi – she had
borrowed the money from others – and achieved the luxury life by marrying
Geetha (his wife ) but by her forcing to make the big home make him tired.
After that he decided to make a small house in his native place without selling
his native house by refusing the force of his wife Geetha.
This story is his memories of
his native place when he see something then he will remember the story about
that, It consist situation of his family, memories about his pattta
(grand father), lover and college life. As
a reader of this book that is sure everyone will like this.
